Formal clinic training and must take USS Stroke& Turn Judge test.

On-the-deck apprenticeship with a trainer (who has a minimum 1-year certification as a S&T) for a minimum of four sessions (cannot make a disqualification during those sessions).

Renewal: Recommend clinic, pre-meet briefing and/or test

Clinic, 25 hours of apprenticeship on deck minimum (no exceptions), plus test (80%), renewal requirements: 10 sessions plus a clinic or 26 sessions.  Below this standard the official must take and pass the recertification exam.

Evaluation by trainer and/or Meet Referee to be reported to Officials Chairman or his designee. Must complete certification within one year from date of clinic.

To maintain certification, must work a minimum of ten sessions per year in stroke & turn or higher capacity plus a clinic or 26 sessions in a year.

Renewal: Based on continuing evaluation

Relay Take-Off Judge

Chief Judge

 

Must be certified Stroke & Turn Judge.

Same as USA Swimming

Must have a minimum of one year's experience as a certified Stroke & Turn Judge.

Starter

Must have worked as certified Stroke & Turn Judge for a minimum of five sessions. Must attend clinic, take the USS Starter's test, and serve five sessions on the deck with trainer(s) approved by the Officials Chairman or his designee.

Renewal: Recommend clinic, pre-meet briefing and/or test.

Must have been Stroke and Turn at least 1 year and recommendation of Referee before test.  Must work at least 5 sessions as a trainee and recommendation of referees of those sessions after taking a starters clinic and passing the test.  Must have worked at least 25 sessions in the previous year.

Certification based on recommendation of the trainer(s) and/or Referee(s).

To maintain certification, must work a minimum of six sessions per year in starter or higher capacity and total of at least 26.

Renewal: Based on continuing evaluation.

Referee

Previous certification as a Stroke & Turn Judge or Starter for a minimum of one year. Recommend be familiar with the positions of announcer, clerk of course, starter, stroke & turn judge, chief judge, timer, timing judge, and meet marshal. Must pass USS Officials' test (all sections) with a grade of at least 80%.

Attend Referee's clinic and apprentice on-the-deck for a minimum of six sessions at three sanctioned meets with at least two different referees.

Renewal: Attend clinic and/or take test every two years.

Must have been a starter for at least 1 year and recommendation of several referees.   Must work at least 6 sessions as a trainee and recommendation of the referees of those sessions after taking a referees clinic and passing all of the tests. Must work at least 25 sessions in the previous year.

Certification based on completion of Education and Training requirements and favorable recommendations by Referee trainers.

To maintain certification, must work a minimum of six sessions per year with at least eight sessions as Referee and a total of at least 26.

Renewal: Based on continuing evaluation by the Officials Chairman or his designee.
