FAQs about Participating at Zones...

  1. If a swimmer participates at sectionals can they still attend the zone championship meet?
    YES. A swimmer may attend zones if they entered an individual event at a Sectional Championship or other meet with time standards as fast or faster.

  2. If a swimmer never entered an individual qualifying event at a Sectionals but currently has a time that would be considered a Sectional Championship time can they go to zones?
    YES. Having a Sectional time does not preclude you from attending zones.
  3. If a swimmer went to a Sectionals as a relay only swimmer and only swam relays at a Sectionals, can they go to zones?
    YES.
  4. If a swimmer has a National time in any event are they allowed to go to zones?
    NO. Here is the exact wording passed by the WZ House of Delegates last fall:

Section V – Western Zone Swimming Championship

D. Eligibility: A swimmer entered in the meet

  1. Must be a currently registered USA Swimming athlete.
  2. Must be entered by the LSC on its official entry.
  3. May not have been entered in an individual event at a USA Swimming Sectional Championships or meet with a faster qualifying time standard, with the following exceptions:
  •  a) May return to the Western Zone Swimming Championship after competing in an individual event at a Sectional Championship if his/her lifetime best time fails to meet the Sectional Championship standard, or
  • b) May return to the Western Zone Swimming Championship after competing in an individual event at a Sectional Championship if he/she has not swum in a Sectional Championship or a meet with a faster qualifying time standard during the preceding 18 months
